Our approaches and tools

for individual coaching : Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) was so-named by its co-founders, John Grinder and Richard Bandler, because, according to them, our brain uses programmes of dealing with information that use our neurology and may be expressed verbally and non-verbally.
It draws on a set of assumptions and “tools” that have promoted individual, collective or organisational change across the three generations since the 1970s.

“First generation” NLP explores the questions of “What do I want?” and “How do I get it?” by working at the level of the individual’s environment, behaviour and capacity.
“Second generation” NLP explores the question of “Why?” by drawing on the individual’s unconscious beliefs and values.
The “third generation” NLP is more interested in the questions of “Who am I?” and “For whom/what [am I]?” It explores “generativity”, that is, the creation of a result (concerning identity, organisation, behaviour, internal consciousness or culture) which never before existed in the world.

“Third generation” NLP maintains that “generativity” implies the alignment and integration of multiple intelligences:
  the intellectual intelligence that comes from our brain and cognitive mind;
  the emotional intelligence that comes from our somatic mind centred in the body;
  the systematic and relational intelligence that comes from a “field” that emerges from our connections and our relations with other systems that surround us.

The coach uses these NLP “tools” in many ways:
  to prepare for his/her coaching sessions, to focus and become completely open to the person being coached;
  to welcome the person being coached with respect and kindness, to guide the definition of their objectives, to reveal existing positive achievements and to uncover the barriers to realising objectives;
  and to allow people being coached gain access to their own resouces by using NLP and other relevant “tools” to reach their objectives.

Before setting up Integral Togetherness, Daniel JEROME studied NLP for five years at the Institut Ressources PNL, Brussels (master-practitioner and psychotherapist). Within the framework of Integral Togetherness he continues regular training with Robert Dilts, especially on the contribution of NLP to the development of leadership and of collective intelligence.
