World Café

This device was created by Juanita Brown and David Isaacs in 1995.
It is a creative process which aims at facilitating constructive dialogue and the sharing of knowledge and ideas, to create a network of exchanges and actions.

Gathered around tables of four or five people, in a café atmosphere, the participants respond to key questions around a pre-set theme on a real issue. At the end of each sequence of around 30 minutes, they change tables to broaden the ideas, exchanging their views and experiences.

At the end of the process, the pooling of ideas in the plenary session opens up new possibilities for the team. The routes to follow are put to discussion.

Business management finds that World Café offers the opportunity to consult with the maximum number of participants on the questions involved, allowing for free discussion and creativity, and for collectively driving change.
